On Wednesday, May 25, WCF launched The Westchester Index,  an interactive website with local data designed to give a comprehensive portrait of our community.   Watch the video here.

The launch event included a demonstration of the Index and remarks by New York State Senator Shelley B. Mayer and Dr. Kien S. Lee, a national expert on using community indicators to promote equity and community change.

 

The Hon. Shelley B. Mayer

New York State Senator

The Honorable Shelley B. Mayer has served on the New York State Senate representing the 37th District since April 2018. Prior to her time in the State Senate, Senator Mayer served in the State Assembly for six years. She has been a champion for children and public schools throughout her time in the State Legislature. From 2013 to 2017, she served as the Chair of the Assembly Education Subcommittee on Students with Special Needs. In 2019, she was appointed to serve as the Chair of the State Senate Education Committee. Senator Mayer continues to work with her colleagues to deliver the resources and policies school districts throughout the state need to provide a quality education for every child, regardless of zip code. She received a JD from SUNY Buffalo School of Law in 1979 and a Bachelor of Arts from UCLA in 1975.

 

Dr. Kien Lee

Principal Associate & Vice President for Community Science

As the Principal Associate and Vice President for Community Science, Dr. Kien S. Lee provides technical oversight for the evaluation of several philanthropic initiatives, including the evaluation of The Colorado Trust’s Community Partnerships for Health Equity initiative to build community power to achieve health equity and the Racial Equity Anchor Collaborative, composed of nine national racial and social justice organizations to support cross-racial community and civic engagement.

Dr. Lee also has been involved in several evaluations of federal initiatives, including advising the evaluation of the Office of Minority Health’s (OMH) National Partnership for Action to End Health Disparities. She is the recipient of the 2013 award for Distinguished Contributions to Practice in Community Psychology. She also serves on the boards of the Community Indicators Consortium and Welcoming America.

 

 

Meet our Presenter:

Erika Rosenberg

President & Chief Executive Officer for CGR

Ms. Rosenberg has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer for CGR since June 2019. She joined CGR in 2005 after a career in journalism covering state and local government and education policy and urban schools. She currently leads CGR’s expanding portfolio of work with nonprofits and foundations in community indicators, evaluation, asset mapping and landscape scans, and collective impact.
