Hunger | Westchester Community Foundation

We have a new website!

Since inception, The Westchester Community Foundation has operated as an affiliate of The New York Community Trust.

As part of our centennial celebrations, we are creating a single, unified organization to more powerfully advocate for our region with one voice.

We will still maintain our physical offices in Westchester with the same dedicated staff who will continue to honor and build upon our relationships with local nonprofits and communities.

You can now find us at: https://www.thenytrust.org/westchester/

The Westchester Index is at westchesterindex.org.

From helping renters avoid eviction, to feeding the hungry, to helping workers get good-paying jobs, we address poverty from many angles. Here's a sample of what we can accomplish through the generosity of donors like you.

Access to Legal Representation

We support nonprofit legal service providers who help low-income residents get skilled, trustworthy representation. We’ve helped:

  • Residents facing eviction stay in their homes and out of shelters
  • Families affected by domestic violence navigate the courts
  • Provide legal help for immigrants

More Fresh Food for the Hungry

One in five residents in Westchester is hungry, and since 2020 the need has increased. We’re ensuring that hungry individuals get access to nutritious food. We’ve helped:

  • Expand a farm-to-pantry program
  • Get more nutritious meals delivered to the homebound
  • Launch a bulk-buy purchasing program that delivers fresh staples to participating pantries

Connect Workers with Good Jobs

We’re ensuring job seekers have the skills employers demand. We’ve helped:

  • Equip workers for jobs in construction, technology, and other fields
  • Help community-college students start careers in healthcare
  • Connect local employers to skilled workers
